It's December 1st! So the girls opened their Star Wars Lego Advent Calendar, a gift from their Uncle Donnie, and they did day one.

I took Norah to Coco Key Water Resort , a new indoor water park about ten minutes from where we live. On Mondays, they have a deal called "Mommy and Me" that lets moms bring kids for about five hours (10am - 3pm) for only $15 each. Kids under two years get in free. There were a few things we couldn't do, like ride the huge water slides or go into the hot tub, since Norah's so little and I'm so pregnant. But, we kept busy with what we could do. In the photos above, you can see part of the big tree house, Norah going into the pool, splashing down one of the slides and sitting on the bottom of the littlest yellow slides. Norah said her favorite part was the lazy river, but she spent most of her time climbing around the big tree house, spraying people and going down the water slides. At their food court, we had Pizza Hut for lunch and later, shared an ice cream from their A&W. It was a good day, but I think we both could use a nap before dinner tonight. Ot

Pick Your Battles

Parent: I wish my kids liked to read as much as your kids like to read. Me: Well, you should know that we put the television way downstairs out of the main room and they don't watch anything until after dinner. Parent: We could never get rid of our television! My husband likes to watch his shows. And we watch the news. Me: I didn't say we don't have a television. We just keep it downstairs, out of the way, and we limit the amount of time the kids are on any screen, actually. Parent: Well, our house isn't as big as yours. We have to have the television in the main room. Me: ... Parent: I wish my kids would read more. Me: I actually make mine read. I hand them a timer and tell them to go get a book. They moan, but they get over it, and they have learned to enjoy it. Parent: Oh, well, I don't have that kind of control over my kids. Me: I'll take something away from them if they don't do what I tell them to do. Parent: But my kids don't even li
