It was a gorgeous fall day, so we decided to take an afternoon off from school and walk to the park. We don't have very many pretty days left before winter comes.

Avril wanted to be where Norah was and do everything she was doing.

Some of the stuff, she could do well enough.


Other stuff, was too hard for her.



And, sometimes, by the time Avril was ready to try something,
Norah had moved on to something else.

But, Norah enjoyed helping her little sister down the slides.


They did it over and over and over again.

Norah also helped Avril get up on the park's newest toys.


The girls really enjoyed this new teeter tooter thingy.

I set up some cones in one of the soccer fields and Norah practiced kicking her soccer ball.

Avril kept moving the cones.

We gave her a "soccer ball ice cream cone." She enjoyed making us laugh by pretending to eat it.

As we were getting ready to go home, Norah found this praying mantis on the picnic table. I used an empty coffee cup with a lid to catch her and bring her home.

We spent the rest of the day reading about praying mantises, purchasing crickets from the pet store to feed her and setting up a comfortable habitat for her. I'll share more photos in a day or two.

This article might interest you. The praying mantis is the state insect of Connecticut. Who knew?

Your children are adorable. The praying mantis is cute, too. LOL.

It has been a long time since we have had a park day.

Our children are older, but I might surprise them with a park day next week and I know they will still love it.

Andrew Peterson's Songs That Celebrate Marriage and Family

Recently, I got to go to an Andrew Peterson concert at the Community Coffehouse in Danbury, CT. My dear friend and I didn't realize the show was sold out when we arrived.  But luckily, the lady at the door showed us pity, let us pay for tickets that didn't exist, and go in. We were willing to stand at the back, but we were able to find space on a bench at the back of the hall. I knew a few of the songs he sang that evening, but many of them were new to me because I have a hard time with new music.  I'd rather sing a song I already know by heart a hundred more times than hear a new song through even once. Astronomer Shoe Boxes for Challenge B

  Avril finished her astronomer shoeboxes for Challenge B.   The Challenge B students have all done research and projects on astronomers throughout this first semester.  Now, students choose two (or more) astronomers in secret and provide clues to the astronomers' identities in their shoeboxes.   For instance, if an astronomer made telescopes, sang opera, played piano, discovered binary stars or Uranus, studied eclipses, lived in a simple, log cabin, or made a map of Washington D.C., you might include some of those items to your shoe boxes as hints.  Student bring in their shoeboxes, and classmates get a chance to guess who the astronomers are based on what's inside the boxes.  Can you guess who Avril's astronomers are based on the pictures above?  Hint: Her two boxes actually represent three astronomers total.
