I made a slide show of photos I took throughout the day yesterday, starting with the kids piled up on Uncle Dwayne's lap for an "Attack!" Nee' Nee' read Avril a book while she was in her swing. Really, she made up a story using the pictures in the book, which was adorable. I'm enjoying Sarah's help and companionship in the kitchen. While we hang out around the house, Norah likes to watch Simon play video games. He usually tolerates her presence though he has to hold the screen in an awkward way that he says, "Makes him die more." We took a hike after lunch and came back for dinner, more fun in our back yard, a camp fire and of course, Smores!
"...the child should have a set time everyday to read for fun. Begin with half an hour for first graders, and build up to an hour of reading time daily... This is an important part of the child's education: it improves his reading skills, teaches him the habit of sitting still with a book, and reminds him that reading is fun... free reading ought to be spent on literature at or slightly below the child's present reading level so that he can simply enjoy himself. The easier reading will help him increase his speed." The Well Trained Mind: The Guide to Classical Education at Home by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer
